Elizabeth Esty, of CT's 5th Congressional District, Participates in Historic Sit-In

This morning, many of us woke up to headlines about a historic sit-in that took place last night on Capitol Hill. Democrats, led by U.S. Representative and Civil Rights Activist, John Lewis, held an impromptu sit-in to shake up the GOP into allowing two gun control bills to be voted on. Since the recent shootings in Orlando, the country has been fired up about gun control, and Democrats across the nation have been doing everything they can to pass stronger gun control measures.

Among those participating in the sit-in, was U.S. Representative of Connecticut's 5th Congressional District. Elizabeth Esty. Esty, along with many of her Democratic counterparts, spoke of the need to pass important legislation such as the one they have been advocating for.

Esty represents towns in Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield and New Haven counties. The towns Esty represents are:

Fairfield County - Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, Newtown, and Sherman.

Hartford County - Avon, Burlington, Canton, Farmington, New Britain, Plainville, and Simsbury.

Litchfield County - Bethlehem, Bridgewater, Canaan, Cornwall, Goshen, Harwinton, Kent, Litchfield, Morris, New Milford, Norfolk, North Canaan, Plymouth, Roxbury, Salisbury, Sharon, Thomaston, Torrington (part), Warren, Washington, Watertown, and Woodbury.

New Haven County - Cheshire, Meriden, Middlebury, Southbury, Waterbury (part), and Wolcott.

Esty had this to say on her Facebook page, which he kept updated even after the cameras had been turned off:

Enough families torn apart. Enough sons and daughters lost. Enough silence. Enough inaction. We need action to prevent gun violence, and we need it now.

Later she wrote:

12 hours in and we aren't wavering: we will not leave unless the House does its job and holds a vote to keep guns out of the hands of terrorists. ‪#‎NoBillNoBreak‬

Currently, the vote has been suspended until July 5, 2016. Click here to view more of Esty's posts and videos.
