Reps. Godfrey, Arconti Praise Approval of Funding for Danbury Projects

Improvements to schools, homeless shelter, courthouse to move forward

State Reps. Bob Godfrey (D-Danbury) and David Arconti (D-Danbury) praised the State Bond Commission’s approval today of funding for multiple projects benefiting the City of Danbury.

The funding includes money for renovations to the Danbury Court House, updates at the Emergency Homeless Shelter, school improvements and construction, and blight remediation of the former Mallory Hat Factory.

“This funding will help renovate our schools, maintain core social services, and improve Danbury’s economic outlook by addressing blight,” Rep. Godfrey said. “Maintaining the services that we all value, such as a high-quality education for our children, takes regular investment, and that’s what this funding is – a needed investment in the City and its residents.”

“Many of our city schools need general capital improvements,” Rep. Arconti said. “More than $1million approved today by members of the Bond Commission will go toward the repair, maintenance or replacement of floors, lighting, cabinets, and plumbing at more than a dozen schools in Danbury. I will continue seeking the resources necessary to improve these buildings where we expect our children will receive a quality education.”

The approved funding includes:

  • $600,000 for improvements to the Danbury Court House
  • $150,000 for the City of Danbury Emergency Homeless Shelter to renovate its existing restrooms and create three gender-neutral restrooms with showers.
  • $1.3 million grant to demolish and remediate the former 3.7-acre Mallory Hat Factory on Rose Hill Road.  A residential facility for women and children in transition is proposed for this site.
  • $1,080,000 for general improvements to Danbury public schools.
