Why Small Businesses Matter in Darien: Mama Carmela's Deli

Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

Tony Gencarelli co-owner of Mama Carmela’s Deli

Why did you start your business?

We purchased the business after the previous owner who was loved by the community had passed away. We admired what he had created and have built off his success by working closely with the community and showing our appreciation by renovating the space for our customers to enjoy. What is your best-selling product/service?

Our best-selling products are breakfast and lunch sandwiches and various salads that we make in-house. Chicken sandwiches and egg sandwiches are customer favorites.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We support local businesses where we can however our real support is for the local school system and first responders.

Have you reimagined your small business?

We have done major renovations to upgrade the interior retail space and have also reached out to serve more customers online and through catering.
