Remembering our Veterans: Medal of Honor recipient Paul W. Bucha and Journalist Morton Dean at The Ridgefield Playhouse

Living History:  Remembering our Veterans: Medal of Honor recipient Paul W. Bucha and Journalist Morton Dean will share their perspectives at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Tuesday, November 13

Emmy Award-winning journalist Morton Dean and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Paul W. Bucha will tell of their experiences covering and fighting in the Vietnam War on Tuesday, November 13, at 7:30 p.m. This event is part of the Moffly Media Entertaining Conversations Series.

In honor of Veterans’ Day, two compelling speakers who have experienced history first-hand will talk about their unique perspectives on war: One fought on the front lines, and one covered the events as a journalist on the battlegrounds. American Vietnam War veteran and recipient of the Medal of Honor, Paul Bucha, was sent to Vietnam in 1967 as a captain and commander of U.S. Army, Company D, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment. On March 16, 1968, he and his company of 89 men were dropped by helicopter southwest of Phuoc Vinh in Binh Duong Province. The company's lead group of about twelve men came under heavy fire and was pinned down. Bucha crawled towards them and destroyed an NVA bunker. As the NVA forces withdrew, he led a party to rescue those soldiers who had been cut off from the rest of the company.  After his tour of Vietnam, Paul W. Bucha taught at West Point and, most recently was a foreign policy adviser to Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign.

As an Emmy Award-winning news correspondent for both CBS News (20 years) and ABC News (14 years), Morton Dean has traveled extensively covering breaking stories around the world including special coverage of the U.S. space program, national politics and the Vietnam War. Morton Dean’s Sunday CBS Evening News was rated number one during his entire tenure.

The Ridgefield Playhouse event is a rare opportunity to hear both men’s points of view as they lived history and overcame the challenges that only war can perpetrate.

In addition to his Medal of Honor, Paul W. Bucha was awarded the Bronze Star w/V, Bronze Star, Air Medal (2), Purple Heart, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, Army Commendation Medal and Civic Action Medal among other honors. Mr. Bucha is currently co-chairman of Visionary Vehicles (Boca Raton and Ridgefield), the pioneering electric vehicle company developing and marketing a new vehicle that does not use gasoline as a hybrid.
