Open Your Heart and Home to an Amazing Child!

So many changes can happen in a summer. This is especially true for a New York City child who spends the summer in the beautiful outdoors with a volunteer host family.

In just a few short weeks, nine-year-old Amore will arrive at Colleen and Chip Henke's Southampton, NY home – and they'll start their third summer together through The Fresh Air Fund's Volunteer Host Family Program.

There's a lot to look forward to: relaxing on the beach, going to BBQs and learning how to sail. “Spending the summer with my host family has opened my eyes to so many amazing experiences that I never would've had in the city!” says Amore.

The Henke family has watched Amore's confidence blossom as she's grown. “I can still remember the first summer when we went to see fireworks. Amore had never seen them before so she was a little nervous. The next year, she was overjoyed to see the fireworks,” says Colleen.

As the winter ends, thousands of kids just like Amore are eager to explore a world outside their city blocks. Hosting a child isn't about a fancy summer experience – it's about giving a city kid a breath of fresh air. With a little imagination and an open heart, your backyard can be the scene of an unforgettable summer.

Plus, hosting a child can have a remarkable impact on a family. “For my three kids, Amore's arrival marks the beginning of unlimited summer fun. My daughter Caroline really looks up to her. Amore is so nurturing to my son, as she has younger siblings at home,” says Colleen.

Getting started as a volunteer host family couldn't be easier. The Fresh Air Fund guides you every step of the way, making sure you and your host child are 100% summer-ready. I hope you'll consider opening your home (and backyard!) to a Fresh Air kid this summer.
