Ernie Anastos to Help Raise Funds for the Hungry in Darien, Apr. 16

Emmy Award-winner Ernie Anastos will be the featured speaker at the April 16
New Covenant House Celebrity Breakfast

New Covenant House of Hospitality (NCH) ˗˗ a soup kitchen serving lower Fairfield County  ˗˗ will hold its 11th Annual Celebrity Breakfast Fundraiser on April 16 at Woodway Country Club of Darien.

The breakfast, which will be held from 7:30-9:00 a.m., will feature a keynote presentation by well-known newscaster Ernie Anastos. Mr. Anastos is a distinguished and popular Emmy Award-winning anchor for the Fox flagship station WNYW-TV in New York.

"I am so honored to be part of this fabulous organization, New Covenant House, making a real difference in people's lives," says Mr. Anastos.

A dynamic New York Hall of Fame Broadcaster, Mr. Anastos has won more than 30 Emmy Awards and nominations. He is the first and only New York TV anchor to receive the coveted “Lifetime Emmy Award,” the highest honor given for his outstanding and personal accomplishments in the television industry. The New York Times hasdescribed him as “the ubiquitous anchorman” who has captured the love and respect of New Yorkers.

Further, he is the creator and host of Positively Ernie, an upbeat program that informs, entertains and inspires viewers about people and stories that help make our community, country and the world a better place.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward supporting the programs at New Covenant House, notes Organizing Committee Chairman Donna Wiberg. “Money raised during the Celebrity Breakfast will help to feed the hungry,” she says.  “By attending this breakfast, our supporters will share their generosity as well as help to raise awareness of our less fortunate neighbors here in lower Fairfield County.”

New Covenant House serves its guests with three meals a day, 365-days-per-year, through its Soup Kitchen and its Pantry Program, providing in excess of 711,000 meals annually. Currently, a capital campaign is under way to fund new quarters for NCH. The soon-to-be-opened facility will include the soup kitchen and a small supermarket-style pantry that will offer clients choices of foods to take home as well as an expansion of  basic human and health need services, including counseling, medical, clothing, showers, toiletries, haircuts and immigration services.

The cost of the breakfast is $200 per seat. In addition, Corporate Sponsor Tables of 10 (Platinum, Gold and Silver) can be purchased at costs ranging from $3,000 to $10,000. Those who would like to attend or make a donation are asked to send checks written to "New Covenant House Breakfast" to NCH, PO Box 10883, Stamford, CT 06904. About New Covenant House

New Covenant House, one of the largest programs of Catholic Charities, serves the greater Stamford area, including, New Canaan, Greenwich and Darien. NCH creates a safe, warm and compassionate environment where, together as a community, we take the first steps toward empowering men, women, and children to reach their full potential and regain their dignity and self-respect. Our guests are the poor and disadvantaged, including the homeless, working poor, elderly, mentally ill, and the disabled.

In October 1978, New Covenant House served its first meal. Since then, thousands of hungry people have found physical and social nourishment at NCH.

New Covenant House is an alternative for low-income people to enjoy three meals daily at no charge. The food pantry offers alternatives for families by providing bagged groceries, which is ideal for working families that need a supplement of food to make ends meet each month.

New Covenant House is a program of Catholic Charities of Fairfield County, Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization. All contributions in support of NCH are fully tax-deductible.
