United Way of Western Connecticut and the Stamford Early ChildhoodCollaborative Bring Business to Books During Annual Read-a-thon

United Way of Western Connecticut and the Stamford Early Childhood Collaborative are proud to bring their annual Business to Books Read-a-thon to all 12 Stamford elementary schools this year. Through our Workplace Volunteer Council, a coalition of businesses that promotes the critical importance of volunteerism in the community, the Business to Books Read-a-thon was launched in 2002.

The purpose of the Business to Books initiative is to promote literacy and enhance public education by increasing community volunteerism in the schools. The following companies visited Stamford elementary schools in late April and read to a total of 2,800 children.

  • Deloitte
  • GE
  • Genworth
  • Greenwich Associates
  • Kelley Drye & Warren
  • Legg Mason
  • NBCUniversal’s Stamford Media Center
  • Nestlé Waters North America
  • Pepsi
  • Pitney Bowes
  • Preferred Brands International
  • Thomson Reuters
  • U.S. Trust
  • Webster Bank
  • Xerox

In addition, many community partners joined in the fun including All Our Kin, the City of Stamford, Domus, and Stamford Museum and Nature Center.

“The Business to Books Read-a-thon is a fun and educational event that both children and volunteer readers look forward to each year,” said Kim Morgan, CEO of United Way of Western Connecticut. “We all win when young people thrive in school. United Way is committed to helping children achieve greater academic success.”
