Families in Recovery Program Receives $5,000 Grant from First County Bank Foundation

Grant To Support Families in Recovery Program in Norwalk

Liberation Programs recently received a $5,000 grant from First County Bank Foundation to support the agency’s Families in Recovery Program in Norwalk.

Families in Recovery (FIRP) is a long-term in-patient residential addiction treatment program for pregnant or parenting women. The program also provides special services for children and is unique to the State of Connecticut since it is the only program of its kind where mothers can bring two children up to the age of 10 into the program with them.

An estimated 20,000 women in Connecticut are in need of substance abuse help each year, but only 25% will receive the care they need. Two thirds of the more than 7,000 children placed in foster care each year are there due to a parent’s substance abuse problem. Alan Mathis, Liberations’ President and CEO stated, “Liberation Programs is able to help mothers regain custody of their children and prepare to be the moms that will nurture them and help them grow into productive adults.”

In addition to receiving help for their substance abuse problems, women work to connect to housing, prepare for employment, and focus on improving their parenting and daily living skills in preparation for living independently once they leave the program.

The First County Bank Foundation contributes generously to non-profit organizations that support community and economic development; increase the availability of affordable housing and programs that support quality of life and educational enrichment for families and children.

Liberation Programs, Inc. (LPI) is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to providing substance abuse prevention and treatment programs in Fairfield County.  Services include outpatient programs, two residential programs, special services for older adults and people living with HIV/AIDS, permanent supportive housing and extensive education and prevention activities in the community.  For more information, visit www.liberationprograms.org.
