The Ferguson Library

One Public Library Plaza ▪ Stamford, CT

Dr. Stephen Coan, President and CEO of Mystic Aquarium, will speak on Tuesday, May 26 at 6pm as part of a series on Civility in America. A presentation of The Ferguson Library, The Dilenschneider Group, Hearst Media Group and Sacred Heart University, the lecture titled "Civility and the Future of Zoos and Aquariums" will address the influence zoos and aquariums have on amending future trends related to the downward digression of Civility in America.

An officer of Mystic Aquarium since 2001, Dr. Coan advanced from COO in 2004 to President and CEO in 2006. During his tenure, Mystic Aquarium has expanded its reach in various mission-driven programs through his unwavering leadership and stewardship. In 2014, Mystic Aquarium received the National Medal for Museum and Library Service at the White House in recognition for outreach programming serving at-risk youth and individuals with special needs.

Robert L. Dilenschneider, Founder and President of The Dilenschneider Group, developed the idea for this series after recognizing that "the lack of civility in every segment of society...has become a crippling epidemic that threatens the future of our country. Something must be done."

As the largest cultural attraction in Southeastern New England, Mystic Aquarium reaches over 700,000 guests each year with the mission to inspire people to care for and protect our ocean planet. Thousands more are engaged through conservation and educational programs.

Dr. Coan's steadfast guidance is instrumental in the exceptional efforts being made by Mystic Aquarium toward the development of our local, regional and global communities.
