The Darien Nature Center is gearing up for its annual Down on the Farm event, a beloved community event that brings good old-fashioned fun for the entire family to Darien. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2015 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on the grounds of the Darien Nature Center. The rain date is Sunday, May 24th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Early entrance for families with special needs children will be at 9:30a.m.
Whole Foods Market, Darien is back as a title sponsor, serving a barbecue of hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, chips, drinks and fresh fruit. There will also be an ice cream truck, sure to help beat the heat for adults and children alike.
Many wonderful events will be featured at this special event, including:
• A live, sing-along children’s concert will be performed by The Bossy Frog Band, a fun and funky musical experience for children, young and old alike. The Bossy Frog Band creates a safe environment for children to let loose and dance and sing!
• Free pony rides, barnyard animals and petting zoo, featuring sheep, goats, rabbits, donkeys and ducks, will be sure to thrill children. Lots of farm equipment, donated by Fox Hill Builders, will also be on hand for climbing and exploring.
• Almstead Tree and Shrub Care will oversee the wildly popular “travel to the treetops” which will hoist children up high above Cherry Lawn Park. Children will get a bird’s eye view of their favorite park from the branches of the trees next to the Darien Nature Center.
• Picnic games by Party on Wheels will get children active and busy with some exciting outdoor exercises on the lawn.
• Facepainting by Face Candy Art will surely bring smiles to children’s faces.
• Trail maps and guided tours of the Darien Nature Center trails will delight children with an exploration of nature’s beautiful treasures tucked right within their own back yard.
• Pop up shops by Seaside Delights, Lulu’s Pies, Smith’s Acres and Mike’s Organic are new additions this year.
The drawing of the winners of the Darien Nature Center 2015 Raffle, featuring an array of great prizes, will take place at 1:00 pm on May 23rd, 2015.
The Darien Nature Center invites young and old to join us for this fun family event. Children with special needs and their families are invited to a special preview of the barnyard at 9:30 am.
The admission fee for the event is $10.00 per child and $5.00 per adult. Food, raffle tickets and other merchandise are an additional cost.
