High school students at Darien High School are hard at work, building their version of the car of the future, a super mileage vehicle to compete in Shell Eco-marathon Americas 2015, which for the first time will take place on the streets of downtown Detroit in early April.
Shell Eco-marathon is a global program that challenges high school and college student teams to design, build and test the most energy-efficient vehicles. With annual events in the Americas, Europe and Asia, this innovation competition pushes future scientists and engineers to travel the farthest distance using the least amount of energy. Last year’s winning team from Quebec, Canada achieved 3,587 miles per gallon.
With a primary objective to create a hydrogen fuel cell car, whose only byproduct is pure water to ensure no harmful pollutants are emitted into the environment, this team of high school students is pushing the boundaries of innovation.
I’ll check in with you soon to see if you’d like to speak to a team. In the meantime, I’ve included a press release below with more information about this year’s competition. You can also learn more about Shell Eco-marathon Americas at www.shell.com/eco-marathon or at http://www.facebook.com/Shell.
