Town of Darien "Business Alert System"

The Darien Police Department and Darien Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to create an early warning alert system for retail merchants.  The new “Business Alert System” (B.A.S.) is designed to facilitate rapid and efficient communications from the police department to retail merchants in the event that criminal activity may be taking place.  Not only will the alert system act as a deterrent, but both agencies feel confident that through its use, victimization can be prevented.

Based on nationwide statistics, it is clear that sophisticated crimes and scams targeting retail establishments are on the rise.  Using the long established CodeRed Network, communication between the Police Department and other Darien businesses will enhance the likelihood that these offenders will be apprehended.  The liaison between the Darien Chamber of Commerce, the Darien Police Department, and the Connecticut Financial Crimes Task Force has provided the framework needed to put the alert system in place and begin protecting our retailers immediately.

Darien Chamber of Commerce members can register starting May 1st through a special registration announcement sent out by the Chamber. A special B.A.S. window sticker will be available to DCC Members and will be ready for distribution later this Spring.

Businesses not currently members of the Chamber of Commerce are encouraged to submit contact information and phone numbers to jmarron@darienct.gov.  All contact information will be added to the B.A.S. network calling list and, in the event of active or potential criminal activity, the business will be notified by the Police Department.  Any questions can be emailed to The Executive Director of the Darien Chamber of Commerce, Susan Cator, at susan@darienctchamber.com
