Darien EMS-Post 53 Offers Hands-Only CPR Classes This Summer
For the volunteers working at Darien EMS-Post 53, there is no tangible reason to devote countless days and nights to becoming a lifesaver, rather it is the drive to help their community in the bleakest of situations. The question Posties are asking themselves is: how do we ignite the incentive in the people of Darien to learn CPR? For Posties, learning CPR was a no brainer; it was a skill that could potentially save a citizen and that in itself was reason enough to learn how many compressions (30) are in correspondence with breaths (2).
This summer there are many chances for every Darien citizen to learn Hands-Only CPR. Every Saturday from 9:00 - 11:00 am at the Darien YMCA a group of Posties will be teaching CPR at a table in the lobby of the facility. There are many Hands For Life events in and around Darien, so keep an eye out for a table at your local gym, library, beach, etc.! After watching a group of Darien eighth graders take a 2 ½-hour- course to become American Heart Association Healthcare providers, stopping by a booth manned by Post 53 high schoolers in red shirts seemed like a no brainer. It takes only 10-15 minutes to learn Hands-Only CPR, a convenient and inconsequential amount of time during a long summer day.
Anyone seeking CPR certification or recertification can contact post53cprcoordinators@gmail.com for a course schedule and more information.
