September is PCOS Awareness Month & RMACT is On It!

September is PCOS Awareness Month

Here’s what Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut (RMACT) has to say about PCOS. It’s not the last thing we say. It’s the first thing we say.

“Even though there is no cure for PCOS, teaching women that they can improve their symptions by providing them with education, medical care, and support will help them take charge of PCOS throughout their lifetime.”

If you aren't getting your menstrual cycles regularly, (every 26-40 days), have hair growth in unexpected places, gain and maintain weight gain without cause, it's possible that you could have PCOS.

What is PCOS?

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex metabolic and endocrine condition that causes hormonal imbalances in women and girls of reproductive age. PCOS affects 5-10% of women of reproductive age– hormonal imbalances prevent the ovaries from ovulating and releasing an egg to meet the sperm, thereby resulting in impaired fertility or sub-fertility. Even small adjustments in lifestyle choices make a big difference in how PCOS can affect you.

At RMACT, we have a multidisciplinary team that offers evaluation, education, and personalized management to patients regarding common PCOS symptoms. PathtoFertility will dive deeper into these topics during the month of September. Follow along on our blog here.
