Darien Chamber Awards DHS Scholarship to Andrew Boe

Andrew Boe will be attending The University of Vermont, College of the Engineering and Mathematical Sciences this fall. From a very early age, Andrew was inquisitive as to the mechanics of how things worked and was challenged by building and creation. Andrew pursued this passion in Darien High School by leading the set crew for the theater program. He designed and also built the spinning stages, spiraling movable staircases and airplanes that dropped from the sky.

Not only did Andrew create, but he used his leadership skills to instruct the set crew when changing scenes and making the show run smoothly. Andrew developed his leadership through scouting and volunteerism and achieved the highest rank as an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, Darien Troop 35. Andrew has been a Scout for 12 years and has learned invaluable tools, donated hundreds of hours of service to the community and served in multiple leadership positions in this Troop. It was a natural position for Andrew to speak publicly and lead the younger scouts by example.

Andrew furthered his leadership by becoming a founding member and competitor in the Model Congress organization at DHS where he competed in the presentation of faux bills to "Congress" at Yale University. Through his devotion to Scouting and his own personal principles and morals, Andrew sets a standard in the community for responsible citizenship and volunteerism. He continues to faithfully commit time to community service. He believes that as citizens, we have a duty to give back to others. Andrew also participates in the Darien YMCA basketball program and leads the team by example on and off the court. Andrew has been involved in the Darien Little League for thirteen years; first as a player and then as an umpire where he has instructed proper game conduct and rules to both players and parents. For the last two summers, Andrew has also worked as a camp counsellor at Wee Burn Country Club where he instructs and mentors young children in the day program.

Andrew is proud to call Darien his home, where he has lived and learned his entire life, and he is honored to be the recipient of the Darien Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Award.
