Injured Barred Owl Rescued by CT Audubon

A Video, a Search, a Rescue, and a Recovering Owl

One of the most awesome birds in Connecticut's forest - a Barred Owl - is recuperating at a wildlife facility after a search-and-rescue mission by three Connecticut Audubon Society staffers who saw a video of the injured bird taken by hikers at our Center at Fairfield.

The owl probably injured his wing while trying to catch something to eat. Our staff searched for him, found him, gently captured him, and drove him to the rehabilitation facility.

It's a great tale. You can read it all, and see another terrific photo, on our blog.

The photo above shows John Laiacone, our sanctuary manager, swaddling the owl to keep it calm. It was taken by Chris Harrison, who helped with the rescue.

The owl is doing well and has a good chance of being released into the wild in early spring. Click here to read more.
