Michael Bond’s gently enchanting stories about Paddington, a bear from Peru who finds a home with the Brown family in London, are enjoying a renaissance of late, thanks to an upcoming live-action film.
Paddington’s adventures were some of my favorite books growing up, and they have been so for my son as well. If you’d like to introduce your little ones to the well-meaning, if accident-prone, bear, you can find a selection of cuddly Paddingtons and Paddington books at Goldenberry in New Canaan. As an added bonus, you’ll also find all the fixings for an authentic English tea, perfect for serving up alongside story time.
The shop carries English, Scottish, and Irish products, from frozen items like mincemeat pies, fish and chips, chocolates, and Bakewells tarts to a broad selection of chocolates, jams, and even condiments. And of course, you will find a whole shelf of teas. A lovely selection of specialty items includes Christmas ornaments, crackers—the kind you break open on Christmas as opposed to the ones you serve with cheese, though you’ll find the latter as well—and decorative items along with fine china, hostess gifts, baby items, and hand knit items by local artisans.
Goldenberry is located at 149 Cherry St. in New Canaan, Conn. For more information, phone (203) 972-5887, or visit goldenberry.com.
