Success Snowballs for Darien YMCA Gymnastics team at Snowflake Invitational

Success is like a snowball for the Darien YMCA gymnastics team this season, growing with every meet. At the Snowflake Invitational in Wilton, the team won four team championships and 11 gymnasts won All Around (AA) titles for their age group and level, including Sofia DeStefano, Jamie Santella, Leah Wall, Holly McGoldrick, Nicole Thompson, Lindsey Wallach, Sydney Steele, Allie Trotman, Kaitlyn Moussignac, Perri Mirabile and Adnerys DeJesus.

The third place Level 3 team was led by Anna Primmer, who won the vault title with 9.4 in the 6-8 group, placed sixth on bars, fourth AA and tied with Ali Kolman for second on beam and fourth on floor. Kolman was also third on vault and fifth on bars and AA. Alannah Morris was sixth on vault and seventh on beam. Lauren Smith was eighth on beam, floor and vault. In the 9s group, Grace Nash was the floor champ with 9.05 and placed fourth on bars, sixth AA and eighth on beam. Amelia Lancaster earned seventh on both beam and bars while Emma Pratt was sixth on beam. Kira McCreesh was eighth on vault and bars.

Treasa Brown scored 9.0 to win bars in the 10s group, and also placed sixth on floor, eighth on vault and third on beam and AA. Olivia Perkins was 2nd on beam, third on vault, sixth on beam and fourth AA. Kyle Latimer was third on bars and eighth on beam and AA. Alexandra Decsi took fifth on bars. In the 11+ group, Reggie Frias placed fourth on beam, second on vault and third on bars and AA and tied Alexandra Bowman for sixth on floor. Bowman was also third on vault, fifth on beam and placed fourth on bars and AA. Meredith Marra was fourth on vault while Amelia Kuhn was ninth.

The team champion Level 4s were led by Sofia DeStefano, who was third on beam and runner up on vault, bars and floor on the way to her 35.85 AA win in the 8-9 group. Gabriela Pye placed second AA, fourth on beam, tied for third on floor with Devan Grills, won the vault with 9.25 and tied for the bars title with Isabella DeStefano. Isabella also placed second on beam, fourth on floor and third on vault and AA. Caterina Pye won the floor title with 9.1, tied Grills for third on bars, was fourth AA and tied Nima Rahbar for fifth on beam. Rahbar also placed fourth on bars and fifth on floor. Emma Kelly was fifth on bars while Iris West was fourth on vault.

Jamie Santella led the Level 4, 10s group, adding the bars and floor titles to her 35.75 AA championship and placing second on vault and fourth on beam. Jane Tortorella won the beam title scoring 9.0, placed fifth on floor and third AA and on bars where she tied with Megan Mitchell. Mitchell was also third on vault and tied Saskia Chermayeff for fourth AA. Chermayeff also took second on bars and beam and fourth on floor. Emma Neaderland placed third on floor, sixth on beam, seventh on vault and fifth on bars and AA. Sofia Imbrogno placed fifth on vault and eighth on beam. In the 11s, Dylan Ross placed fifth on floor. Sofia Fea and Tetyana Banaryk tied for the floor title in the 12+ group, with Fea also earning fourth on vault and beam and third on bars and AA while Banaryk was third on beam. Also competing for Darien at Level 4 were Audrey Ridder and Katelyn Secor.

The Level 5s were also team champions. Leah Wall placed second on bars and beam and captured the vault and floor titles on the way to her AA win in the 9-10s with 36.25. Tori Ware won the beam title with 9.35 and placed fourth on vault, third on bars and floor and second AA. Skye Greene was second on vault, fourth on floor and third on beam and AA. Megan Cutler placed third on vault, fifth on floor and fourth on beam and AA. Sommer Schmidt was fourth on bars while Kate Wolters was fifth on both vault and bars. Paige Domenici earned her meet high score on beam.

The terrific twosome of Holly McGoldrick and Nicole Thompson tied for the 11s AA title with 35.35. McGoldrick also won floor, placed second on vault and beam and tied Christina Pizzani for third on bars. Thompson won the bars and beam titles and tied Lindsay Hall and Dillan Aysseh for third on floor. Sofia Pye won the vault title with 9.3, tied Hall for second on bars and Pizzani for second on floor and was also second AA. Pizzani also earned fourth on vault and beam and third AA. Hall took fourth AA. Aysseh also placed third on vault and beam and fourth on bars.

Also in Level 5, Alexa Carrero scored 9.25 to win the vault title for the 12-13s and placed third on bars, floor and AA. Lindsey Wallach added the floor and beam titles to her AA championship in 14+.

Another level, another team championship. The Level 6 team title effort was boosted by Sydney Steele’s wins on vault, bars and AA in the 9-11s. For the 12-13s, Allie Trotman added the vault, beam and floor titles to her AA win with 36.55 and also placed third on bars. Jane Ogden tied Trotman for the vault title with 9.25, was third on beam, and second on floor, AA and bars where she tied with Lana Schmidt. Schmidt was also third on vault, floor and AA and fourth on beam. Tess Keating placed second on beam, fifth on vault, fourth on floor and sixth AA. Octavia Molkenthin was fifth on beam before suffering an injury and was unable to continue. Maeve DeGulis earned her meet high score on vault. In the 14+ group, Sarah Petti was second on floor and third on bars.

Kaitlyn Moussignac swept the podium in the Level 7, 12-13s, winning all four events and the AA with 34.70. In the 15+ group, Kajsa Lundeen was the beam champ with 9.45 and placed third on vault and floor and second AA. Fiona Brock earned fourth on both vault and floor.

Another team title went to the Level 8s, with Perri Mirabile leading the way, adding the beam and floor titles to her 35.30 AA win, placing second on vault and tying Jessica Freiheit for third on bars. Freiheit also won vault with 9.1 and placed third AA. Sam Gunn was third on both vault and beam. Adnerys DeJesus swept the titles on all four events and AA as the sole competitor for Darien at Level 9. The team will next compete at the Flippers Invitational in Glastonbury in January.
