Wolf Tails for Kids - Mythology of a Predator

DESCRIPTION: Get outside during the holidays at the Wolf Conservation Center! Join the WCC for a mythology program discussing the relationship between the wolves and humans of the past. Guests will be introduced to various wolf mythologies and then have a chance to create their own and share if desired. Then, guests will visit Ambassador wolves Atka, Alawa, Zephyr and Nikai as well as the WCC’s critically endangered red wolves and Mexican gray wolves too. Don’t forget a camera! Learn about the mythology, biology and ecology of wolf families and discover why this season is such a magical time for packs in North America. Whether the wolves are living on the Arctic tundra or the high desert of the southwest, wolf families are out searching for prey as their maturing pups experience their first winter season. Guests will visit Ambassador wolves Atka, Alawa, Nikai and Zephyr as well as the WCC’s critically endangered red wolves and Mexican gray wolves. Snow Moon Wolf Walk

Celebrate February’s full moon, “the Snow Moon,” with the Wolf Conservation Center’s snow-loving wolves! While keeping warm by the WCC’s outdoor fire pit, guests will enjoy warm drinks, sugary treats and likely the symphony of howls from the 24 wolves that call the WCC home. Guests will learn about the history of wolves in the United States, the importance of wolves in a healthy ecosystem and the efforts to save these magnificent creatures for future generations. Guests then take will take a short moonlit walk to visit Ambassador wolves Atka, Alawa, Nikai and Zephyr. Please bring flashlights. Pre-registration is required. Please dress for COLD weather. Arctic Fest: Wings and Wolves

Winter offers families a unique opportunity to visit the wolves during their favorite time of year. The animals of the arctic are not strangers to cold winters. Living in continual darkness and temperatures hovering between -20 or -30 degrees Fahrenheit, arctic animals must develop special adaptations to stay warm, conserve energy, and find food in a barren, frozen world. Arctic Fest: Wings and Wolves will allow guests to learn about the harsh habitat that some very special animals call home. Master falconer, Brian Bradley of Skyhunters in Flight, will present his beautiful feathered ambassadors that call the high arctic home and will do a flight demonstration too! Guests will also visit resident arctic gray wolf Atka and of course the WCC’s other ambassador wolves-Zephyr, Nikai and Alawa as well as the WCC’s critically endangered red wolves and Mexican gray wolves. Join us for this special opportunity to photograph the WCC’s Ambassador wolves: Atka , Alawa, Nikai and Zephyr, in their winter glory in the warm glow of the sunset! Guests will also be given access to photograph the WCC critically endangered Mexican wolves and red wolves too from vantage points not generally available during regular visits.
