This week the Avon in Stamford will open CALVARY, from John Michael McDonagh, the writer/director of THE GUARD. The film stars Brendan Gleeson (THE GUARD, HARRY POTTER), Kelly Reilly (SHERLOCK HOLMES, FLIGHT) and Chris O'Dowd (BRIDESMAIDS, HBO's Girls). Gleeson plays a good-natured priest who must fight the dark forces closing around him after he is threatened during a confession.
"An inventive whodunit with a pitch black heart."

"Hailed as the most significant Irish film in years."
-The Telegraph
We will also hold over Woody Allen's MAGIC IN THE MOONLIGHT, starring Emma Stone (SPIDERMAN, THE HELP) Colin Firth (THE KING'S SPEECH, A SINGLE MAN) and Marcia Gay Harden (INTO THE WILD). MAGIC is set in the French Riviera during the roaring twenties and follows Firth, a renowned magician who is called upon by a friend to debunk the myth that a young clairvoyant (Stone) possesses spiritual powers.
"The summer's most beguiling romantic comedy. Colin Firth and Emma Stone make a magnetic pair of opposites. Emma Stone lights up the screen. Colin Firth is wonderfully appealing. The actors are a pleasure to be around."
-Peter Travers, Roling Stone
