Arrest Made In Town Hall Incidents

Darien, CT – On April 22, 2014 at approximately 9:30 p.m. this agency received a report of a burglary in progress at Darien Town Hall, 2 Renshaw Rd. The complainant, Javonte Ramos, who is employed at Town Hall as a custodian stated that he observed a male subject climbing through a basement window in an attempt to gain entry. Ramos explained that when the suspect saw him, he fled. Ramos stated that he then chased the suspect and caught him, but the suspect struck him in the head and he escaped. When officers arrived they searched the area with the aid of a K-9 Unit but did not locate the suspect. Ramos complained of head pain and was subsequently transported to Stamford Hospital.

On the morning of April 23, 2014 Ramos was asked to come to police headquarters and was re-interviewed by Detectives about the previous night's events. Inconsistencies in Ramos' claims became more evident as the investigation continued. Subsequently Ramos admitted to fabricating the "burglary in progress" call on the evening of the 22nd.

On April 15, 2014 Ramos called police to report a suspicious person outside of Town Hall at approximately 10:30pm. Officers responded but did not locate anyone. Through investigation, this report was also determined to be a fabrication.

Additionally Ramos was questioned about the incident at Town Hall on April 9th, when he located a "threatening note" that stated "Every 1 Will Die!!!" On that date Ramos purportedly located the note and informed the First Selectman's Office which prompted an evacuation and search of the premises by police and explosive detection canines.

Not only has it been determined that Ramos found it but that he also wrote the note. As a result, the Darien Police Detective Division secured a warrant for Ramos' arrest. On April 24, 2014, Javonte Ramos, age 20, of 25 Suncrest Rd. in Norwalk, turned himself in to Detectives. Ramos was charged with:

· 1 Count of Falsely Reporting An Incident 1st Degree

· 2 Counts of Falsely Reporting An Incident 2nd Degree

· 1 Count of Providing A False Statement

Ramos was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on May 5, 2014.
