Darien Police Selective Enforcement Unit Arrests Restaurant Employee For Narcotics Sales

During the past several weeks, the Darien Police Department Selective Enforcement Unit (S.E.U.) developed information that an unknown male employee of Steam Restaurant was selling marijuana to local teens.  Steam Restaurant is located at 971 Post Rd. Darien.  Specifically it was determined that the employee would conduct narcotic transactions either inside of the establishment or in the rear parking lot. 

For the past week, controlled purchases were conducted with the employee on several occasions including last night at approximately 6:00pm.  During last night’s  transaction, members of the Darien Police S.E.U., the Detective Division, and the Patrol Division were able to apprehend the suspect in the rear lot while he was attempting to sell marijuana. 

The subject had been identified as Namgyao Kelsang DOB 12/08/1994, of 8 Mansfield Ave. Darien, and formerly of Brooklyn, NY.  Kelsang was taken into custody without incident on the strength of an arrest warrant which had previously been granted.  A small quantity of marijuana was recovered from Kelsang’s person.   Immediately following his arrest, Darien officers executed a search warrant at Kelsang’s residence at 8 Mansfield Ave. Darien where an additional 13 grams of Marijuana were recovered.   

Kelsang was subsequently charged with: 

  • 2 Cts. Illegal Sale of a Controlled Substance  

  • 2 Cts. Possession of Narcotics 

  • 1 Ct.  Conspiracy To Sale of A Controlled Substance

Kelsang is currently being held on an $11,000.00 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Stamford Superior Court at 10:00am on January 28, 2015.
