Rain & Wind Headed to Fairfield County

The National Weather Service [NOAA] has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Fairfield County Saturday night into Sunday morning.

High pressure over the western Atlantic Ocean continues to drift offshore as a cold front approaches from the west. Strong southwest flow will usher a warm and mild air mass into the region with highs in the upper 60’s to around 70 in most areas and in the low to mid 60’s near the coasts.

Showers develop late tonight, Thursday, March 31 as that front draws near. Periods of rain with scattered thunderstorms are expected on Friday, April 1 as that front moves across the region.

A strong cold front on Saturday, April 2 evening will bring unseasonably cold air to the region by way of very strong northwesterly winds. Gusts of 50 to 60 mph are possible on Saturday night into Sunday morning. Winds of this magnitude can be damaging and lead to power outages.

Sunday is expected to be mostly sunny and breezy with a high near 40 degrees.
