Five Juveniles Arrested by Darien PD for Car Burglary

At approximately 5:30am on June 18, 2016 the Darien Police Department was contacted by a resident of Anthony Ln. who reported that several individuals were believed to be breaking into vehicles.

Several officers responded to the area and located a group of five (5) male subjects who matched the description provided by the complainant, walking southbound on Hillside Ave.  The five subjects, who were all determined to be between 15 and 17 years old, claimed they were coming from a party nearby.   While the five juveniles were being detained, the complainant responded to the scene and positively identified them as being the subjects he observed walking away from a vehicle which had his alarm activated in a nearby Anthony Ln. driveway.

Investigation determined that the juveniles were responsible for the larceny of two bicycles from an Anthony Ln. residence, and eleven (11) car burglaries on Anthony Ln, Hollow Tree Ridge Rd, and Glenwood Rd. The juveniles were then taken into custody and based on interviews and evidence recovered on their persons, they were charged with the following:

·         15 year old male Stamford resident charged with                    2 Cts Burglary 3rd  Degree, Conspiracy To Burglary 3rdDegree

·         16 year old male Stamford resident charged with                    3 Cts Burglary 3rd  Degree, Conspiracy To Burglary 3rdDegree

·         17 year old male Stamford resident charged with                    2 Cts Burglary 3rd  Degree, Conspiracy To Burglary 3rdDegree

The owner of the two bicycles that had been stolen declined to press charges against the juveniles.

The five juveniles were then released from custody to their parents and are scheduled to appear in Stamford Court of Juvenile Matters on June 28, 2016.

The Stamford Police Department was advised of the car burglaries due to the close proximity to the city line.  They also reported that numerous similar incidents have taken place in their jurisdiction in close proximity to the town borders.  This investigation is ongoing.

Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles and keep valuables out of sight.  All eleven car burglaries that took place in this incident were vehicles that were unlocked.  In less than two months, over twenty (20) overnight burglaries of unlocked vehicles have occurred in Darien.
