Tetreau Appoints Robert Mayer New Chief of Staff

Monday, Feb. 13 -- First Selectman Mike Tetreau announced today that Robert Mayer will serve as his new Chief of Staff beginning February 21, 2012.  First Selectman Tetreau said, “Looking forward, there are significant challenges facing our Town in the areas of growing costs in Pensions, Retiree Medical Benefits and Health Insurance.  We have to balance these cost drivers with the need to minimize the tax burden on our residents.  Mr. Mayer has the experience and skills to provide valuable support in evaluating how the Town can best address these areas. His addition provides added strength to the Town’s financial management team."

As former CEO and Director of a $1 billion healthcare company, Health America, and former Chief Finance Officer and Director of Sierra Health Services, a NYSE Company, Mr. Mayer brings a unique skill set to help the Town. In addition, Mr. Mayer has served Fairfield as a member of the Board of Finance and a member of the Employees’ Retirement Board.  From 2001 to 2002, Mr. Mayer also co-chaired the Fairfield Financial Plan Advisory Committee, which developed a five-year financial plan for the Town.  A Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Mr. Mayer received his business degree at the University of California, Berkeley.  He is a Vietnam Combat Veteran and a member of the VFW.

Mr. Mayer will be replacing Tom Bremer, the current Chief of Staff, who has served in this role since 2006. Mr. Bremer worked on various projects such as helping with the completion of the Metro Center, the acquisition of the Army Site, negotiating the purchase of the Hoyden’s Lane Property, and acquiring the St. Emery’s site for the Board of Education (BOE).

First Selectman Tetreau said, “Mr. Bremer has been an invaluable team player whose advice and leadership has been especially helpful during my transition from Interim First Selectman to First Selectman.  I thank Mr. Bremer for his many positive contributions to the Town and to the people of Fairfield during these past six years.  I very much hope that in the near future, there will be another key role in Town for Mr. Bremer.”
