Near & Far Aid Grants Over $1 Million to Local Non-Profits

SOUTHPORT, CT -- On Tuesday morning, September 16, Near & Far Aid, the all-volunteer organization dedicated to eliminating the causes and effects of poverty in Fairfield County, held its annual meeting at the Pequot Library in Southport.

The organization’s fiscal year closed on August 31 and Vice President and Projects Review Chair Joan Panagos proudly announced that for the year 2013-2014, $1,012,500 was granted to 100 non-profit agencies that provide assistance ranging from emergency aid and crisis intervention to programs that build paths to self-sufficiency and educational opportunities for children and adults.

The Near & Far Aid granting process requires intensive review of applications, financial documents, project scopes and outcomes as well as personal onsite visits to ensure the funds granted will make the maximum positive impact on the lives of those living in poverty in Fairfield County.

Near & Far President Bitsy Higgins also introduced the new website, which will help promote the annual fundraising events they organize and facilitate their granting process. For more information, please visit www.nearandfaraid.org.

The new Board of Directors for the 2014-15 year includes Elizabeth Fath, Emily Gordon, Katia Mead and Kelly Scinto. Retiring members are Erinn Hermann, Sarah Kleinman and Denise Colosimo, who will now serve as Advisory Director.
