Founded in 1987, the SWIM offers cancer patients and their families a significant safety net by providing financial support and care for the needs that health insurance does not cover. This includes cancer screenings at low- or no-cost for people who are uninsured or underinsured as well as diagnostic services, wigs, prostheses, and financial assistance for medications, transportation, daycare, utilities, mortgages, free support groups, and more. Each year, the SWIM serves over 30,000 individuals in the greater Bridgeport area and throughout Connecticut.
