Person-to-Person Receives Grant from Near & Far Aid

A long-time supporter of Person-to-Person, the Near & Far Aid Association has awarded a $25,000 grant for the P2P Emergency Assistance Program. The Emergency Assistance Program is at the core of the P2P service offering, providing food, clothing, financial assistance, crisis counseling and referrals to clients.

With locations in Norwalk and Darien, P2P helps nearly 25,000 men, women and children each year. P2P Executive Director Ceci Maher highlights the fact that the high cost of living in Fairfield County makes it difficult for the working poor and those who have incomes above the Federal Poverty Level but below the basic cost-of-living threshold to cover basic expenses. “The good news is that grants such as the one we have received from Near & Far Aid enable us to help individuals and families struggling to make ends meet," she said.

When Near & Far Aid President Joan Panagos informed P2P about the award, she noted that the all-volunteer fundraising and fund granting organization is dedicated to eliminating the causes and effects of poverty in Fairfield County. “We accomplish this mission by finding and funding programs that provide life’s most basic necessities, as well as those that seek to achieve lasting change. Since the year 2000, Near & Far Aid has granted more than $15 million to the area’s best non-profit agencies and programs that further our mission," said Panagos.

“P2P is grateful for the continuing commitment and support of Near & Fair Aid,” says Maher, “which enables us to provide help, hope and opportunity to people living in Stamford, Norwalk, Darien, New Canaan, Weston, Westport and Wilton.”
