St. Vincent's Med Ctr. Foundation Funds "Women at Heart" Program

BRIDGEPORT, CT - St. Vincent's Medical Center Foundation recently funded $5,000 in Bridgeport Bucks through the Bridgeport Farmers Market Collaborative to be dispersed at specific sites of care to women who are at risk for developing or are being treated for heart disease. Patients can use these coupons at any of the seven Bridgeport farmers markets to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables as part of a heart-healthy diet.

"By funding Bridgeport Bucks through the Bridgeport Farmers Market Collaborative we can further their mission to increase access to healthy, local fruits and vegetables for all, regardless of income - and we  support the mission of our "Women at Heart" program, which strives to help all women to prevent heart disease through education and prevention," said Dianne Auger, who serves as President and CEO of St. Vincent's Medical Center Foundation and Senior Vice President/Chief Strategy Officer of St. Vincent's Medical Center. "These coupons will enable St. Vincent's physicians and nurses to provide financial help to patients and support their recommendations to patients to adopt healthier eating habits."

Patients will receive two $5 coupons for a total of $10 in Bridgeport Bucks. For those who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Bridgeport Farmers Markets also participate in the SNAP incentive program, which matches every dollar swiped in SNAP with an additional dollar towards fresh fruit and vegetables. Whether these two programs are used together or separately, they can help improve the diets of many at risk patients in community.
