Mill River Wetland Committee Joins the Global #GivingTuesday Movement

Fairfield, CT – Mill River Wetland Committee, Inc. (MRWC) has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. MRWC is excited to use funds raised during #GivingTuesday to update its popular and award-winning River-Lab Program in alignment with the changes of the CT Science Curriculum.  You can give to MRWC’s #GivingTuesday campaign at www.givinggrid.com/MRWC-Fairfield.

The Mill River Wetland Committee has a simple mission: to educate the community about the value of wetlands, to advocate for their continued protection, and to engage all people in the fight to protect our environment. The MRWC believes that people protect the things they love, and love the things they have learned to understand. With the River-Lab Program, now beginning its 50th year in Fairfield schools, the MRWC has taught generations of students and parents to value the watersheds that support our lives. MRWC is a registered CT 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Lynn Shavinsky, President of MRWC, says enthusiastically, “The community of Fairfield is incredibly supportive of environmental education and volunteerism. We are confident that we can top last year’s fundraising goal. In fact, we are so optimistic, that we set ourselves the goal to raise $5K this year in recognition of our 50th anniversary.”

“We have been incredibly inspired by the generosity in time, efforts and ideas that have brought our concept for a worldwide movement into reality,” said Henry Timms, founder of #GivingTuesday and executive director of 92Y. “As we embark on our sixth year of #GivingTuesday, we are encouraged by the early response from partner’s eager to continue making an impact in this global conversation.”

About #GivingTuesday

#GivingTuesday is a global giving movement that has been built by individuals, families, organizations, businesses and communities in all 50 states and in countries around the world. This year, #GivingTuesday falls on November 28. #GivingTuesday harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners
to transform how people think about, talk about, and participate in the giving season. It inspires people to take collective action to improve their communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they believe in, and help create a better world. #GivingTuesday demonstrates how every act of generosity counts, and that they mean even more when we give together.
