Artist Debra Schaffer to Speak at FCAA Meet, May 14

Interested artists are invited to attend a presentation by artist Debra Schaffer at the Fairfield County Arts Association meeting on May 14. It will be held at Roger Ludlowe Middle School on Unquowa Road in Fairfield from 7 to 9 pm. She will discuss and show pictures of her mixed media photo collages and her stone and wood sculptures.

Debra brings thirty years of stone and wood carving to her collages. She takes hundreds of photographs of a scene, cuts them up and reassembles them into a multi-layered work that incorporates stones, wood, greenery, and clay items. She says, "I think like a sculptor. I never see flat. I always see perspective and want viewers to be pulled into my experiences and share the events and places I have seen."

The Ridgefield resident taught sculpture for more than thirty years. Her work is in over 400 private and public collections. She has exhibited in more than twenty galleries in the tri-state area and in the Hudson River, Katonah, Housatonic, and Monmouth Museums. She has received awards from the Whitney, MOMA, Katonah, Aldrich, and Queens Museums, as well as from Silvermine's Art of the Northeast, Chaim Gross, and William Zimmer.

The Fairfield County Arts Association is a networking club for area artists in all media, on both professional and non-professional levels. Membership of $30 a year includes a monthly newsletter, group exhibition opportunities, a webpage of each member's artwork, two social events a year. and monthly meetings in Fairfield.
