Explore French Impressionism at Fairfield Library

Go on an adventure in French Impressionism with ArtScapades at Fairfield Library. Beginning with an overview of the basic elements of art and design, ArtScapades will then introduce the historical climate that gave rise to Impressionism. The factors that brought the movement to Paris include the redesign of the city, the growth of café culture, the impact of the Industrial Revolution, and advances in materials and technology. Highlighting the lives of four important Impressionist artists and their works -- Édouard Manet, Claude Monet, Pierre Auguste Renoir and Edgar Degas -- you will come away with both an understanding of French Impressionism and the tools to effectively explore galleries and museums. This program will take place Wednesday, April 30 at 7:00 pm in the Rotary Room at the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road. Registration is requested.

Presenters Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman are the founders of ArtScapades. They began teaching art appreciation together in the New Canaan Public Schools in 1998. By popular demand, they began sharing their classes with adults who also wanted to further their knowledge of art appreciation. Over the past five years they have brought their programming to libraries throughout Connecticut.

All programs at the Fairfield Public Library are free. To register, or for more information on this and other programs, visit us online at: www.fairfieldpubliclibrary.org or call 203-256-3160.
