Elmyr de Hory Film at Fairfield Library, Aug. 13

Head to Fairfield Main Library for the next Movies about Art film, Masterpiece or Forgery? The Story of Elmyr de Hory, on Wednesday, August 13 at 10:30 am. The film will be shown in the Rotary Room at the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road. The film examines the life of the man referred to as "The Myth of Our Century" when he was revealed as a master forger in 1968. de Hory was born in 1905 and created and an estimated 1,000 fake paintings, primarily in the style of the Post-Impressionists, before he died or disappeared in 1976. Reference Associate Lauren DeNisco hosts the Movies about Art series, continuing her foray into the art world begun with the Skype-a-Docent program she established at the Library last fall. Registration is requested.

Another Movies about Art feature will be The Art of the Steal, the story of art collector Albert C. Barnes, on Wednesday, September 13 at 10:30 am. Barnes amassed a collection of Impressionist paintings at his home outside of Philadelphia to the envy of the world's most prestigious museums.

This film series is an extension of the Skype-a-Docent program which offers tours of cultural interest, particularly art, to seniors and others who may not be able to travel out of town. A docent from various museums and venues takes us on a private tour via Skype – a video phone call. When the Skype call is projected onto the large screen in the Library's Rotary Room, it allows us to view exhibits up close and to converse directly with our guide. Skype-a-Docent tours are also offered by the Library at several senior living facilities in town. The Skype-a-Docent series will resume this fall on October 8.

All programs at the Fairfield Public Library are free. To register, or for more information on this and other programs, visit our website at: www.fairfieldpubliclibrary.org or call 203-256-3160.
