Dr. Schenker to Host Book Talk Series at Fairfield Library

Dr. Mark Schenker returns to lead his popular series Talking About Books: The First World War in Literature at the Fairfield Public Library. The three-session series, in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War I, will be held on Thursday, September 18, October 2 and October 30 at 7 p.m. in the Rotary Room of the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road.

Dr. Schenker of Yale College will discuss literature written by soldiers and veterans of WWI, whose centenary was marked this summer. The series will include two novels written in the 1920’s and poems by British soldiers published during and immediately after the war. The two novels that will be discussed are A Farewell to Arms (1929) by Ernest Hemingway and All Quiet on the Western Front (1929) by Erich Maria Remarque.

Schenker is a Senior Associate Dean at Yale College, Dean of Academic Affairs and a part-time lecturer in the English Department. He has led book discussions in Connecticut for over 25 years and has given numerous lectures on writers and their works.

Advanced registration is required due to the limited space. All programs at the Fairfield Public Library are free of charge. For more information and to register for this event call 203-256-3160, or visit www.fairfieldpubliclibrary.org
