Nov. 12 Fundraiser to Help Sullivan Family of Fairfield

The Sullivan Family in Fairfield needs help! A few Fairfield women formed a committee and will launch an event, "Rolling for a Reason", to help this local Fairfield family in great need.

The family's patriarch, Sean Sullivan, has been fighting leukemia for almost three years now, and while the leukemia is in remission thanks to a bone marrow transplant, a disease - "graft vs. host disease" -- is making him even sicker. Unfortunately, it's the body's way of rejecting the bone marrow even though it was a perfect match. This does not happen in all bone marrow cases, some work fine. For Sean, it is basically creating harm to his body. He has had problems with his liver, eyes, teeth, bones, and lungs and is on oxygen continually.  Sean is now in the process of being evaluated for a lung transplant at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Tracie, Sean’s wife, has been a pillar of strength and has supported Sean every step of the way. Tracie is extremely spiritual, and believes they will somehow be taken care of and will be fine, however, this three-year situation has been very hard on Sean, Tracie and their three children Connor, Caroline and Cooper. Still, they remain filled with hope and faith and are grateful for all the outpouring of support from the Fairfield community.

All that said, a huge issue that they are facing right now, beyond his illness, is that there are very limited funds coming in because Sean is unable to work, and everywhere they turn, it seems they face another problem. Many, many friends of the Sullivans, Girl & Boy scout troops, sports teams, their church, etc., have tried to help them the best that they can over the years, with donations of food, meals, bottled water, and gas cards to pay for the gas required to travel back and forth to Yale New Haven hospital two or three times a week, for Sean’s various treatments and doctor’s appointments. This has helped, but it is not enough, The Sullivans remain in need.

That's why a group of moms decided to have a fundraiser dedicated to the Sullivan family with all money raised going directly to them. It's called "Rolling for a Reason" and is going to be held on November 12, at the Gaelic American Club from 7:30 to 10:30pm.  The hope is to get 100 women to play Bunco, at $100 each! They hope to raise awareness before and after the event. The committee hopes that the donations "roll" in before, during and after the event and that the momentum builds to keep the funds coming in for the Sullivans.
