Six-foot Ice Menorah to be Carved on Sherman Green, Sun. Dec. 21

Fairfield’s Chanukah celebrations will receive a significant boost this year with the lighting of an Ice Menorah at the town's Sherman Green on Sunday, December 21st at 4:00pm. Starting at 3:30pm, the public is invited to watch a team of skilled ice sculptors use chainsaws and carving tools to carve blocks of ice into a six-foot menorah. The event will also feature holiday refreshments, music and dancing.

Chabad will also be offering all children free holiday crafts and refreshments at Magic Beans, located at 1530 Post Road, from 2:30 -3:30 pm.

Chanukah, a celebration for all time, is highlighted by the kindling of the Menorah each night of the holiday. "It is a holiday that enriches our lives with the light of tradition," said Rabbi Shlame Landa, director of Chabad of Fairfield. "In ancient times our ancestors rededicated the Temple in Jerusalem with the Menorah. Today, we rededicate ourselves to making this world a better and brighter place."

In its Chanukah outreach campaign, Chabad of Fairfield joins thousands of Chabad centers across the globe that are staging similar public displays of the Menorah and its symbolic lights. From Australia to Africa, Columbia to Hong Kong, New York City’s Central Park to the White House lawn, hundreds of thousands will experience the joy of Chanukah.
