WAC Seeking Submissions for SOLOS 2015

The Westport Arts Center's Visual Arts program is dedicated to creating world class exhibitions and programming that engage and enrich the community. The SOLOS exhibition is one way in which the Arts Center celebrates and showcases the artistic talent and diversity of its Artist Members. SOLOS 2015 will be on view from May 8 - June 27. Juried artists will be selected to exhibit a body of work in the Arts Center's gallery. SOLOS 2015 is sponsored by Susan Malloy and the Sun Hill Foundation.

JUROR: Richard Klein
Richard Klein is an artist, curator, and writer. Since 1999 he has been exhibitions director of The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, CT. In his sixteen year career as a curator of contemporary art he has organized over 80 exhibitions, including solo shows of the work of Roy Lichtenstein, Janine Antoni, Sol LeWitt, Mark Dion, Michael Joo, Hank Willis Thomas, Brad Kahlhamer, Roy McMakin, Mary Temple, Jessica Stockholder, Tom Sachs, and Elana Herzog.  Major curatorial projects at The Aldrich have included Fred Wilson: Black Like Me (2006), Elizabeth Peyton: Portrait of an Artist (2008), Shimon Attie: MetroPAL.IS. (2011), and Michael Joo: Drift (2014). As an artist, he has exhibited widely, including the Neuberger Museum of Art at SUNY Purchase, Caren Golden Fine Art, New York, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, WI, Hales Gallery, London, Gavlak Gallery, Palm Beach, FL, Schoolhouse Gallery, Provincetown, MA, Portland Institute of Contemporary Art, Portland, OR, and the Tufts University Art Gallery, Medford, MA. His work is included in numerous public and private collections, including the Norton Family Collection, Santa Monica, CA, the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, Lincoln, MA, and the Connecticut Artists Collection (State of Connecticut), Hartford, CT. His essays on art and culture have appeared in Cabinet Magazine and have been included in books published by Hatje Cantz, Damiani, Picturebox, and the University of Chicago Press, among others.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Eligibility
Artists must be a member through June 30, 2015 or become a member.

Has not exhibited in SOLOS for the past 3 years.

Deadline
Artwork must be submitted by March 18, 2015.
Late entries will be accepted through March 25, 2015 for an additional $10 fee.

Artwork Requirements
Artists may submit a body of work up to 8 pieces, completed after January, 2013.
2-D work, including frame, may not exceed 72".
3-D work may not exceed 72" in any direction
No works may exceed 200 lbs.
Images should be 1MB - 4 MB and be uploaded as .jpg or .png.
Videos may be up to 500 MB and submitted as .mov, .mp4, or .wmv.
Artists may submit their resume, artist statement, and a brief description of submitted works.
WAC may edit artist selection based on space limitations.

Entry Fee: $35
Young Artist (ages 25 and under) Entry Fee: $25
Additional fee for late entries: $10
All payments are securely processed with PayPal.
 
NOTIFICATIONS
WAC will notify all artists by email on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 5pm. No phone calls, please.
Accepted artists' names will be posted on www.westportartscenter.org.
