Pequot Library Derby Day May 2

Southport, CT – Many libraries and other nonprofits are jumping on the lively “Derby-style” fundraiser, complete with southern flair. On Saturday, May 2, from 4:00pm - 7:00pm, the Great Lawn and the Auditorium of Pequot Library will be home to "The Greatest 2 Minutes in Sports!" Celebrate the running of the 141st Kentucky Derby with big hats, fast horses, mint juleps and traditional southern fare. All proceeds help support Pequot Library’s programs and community services. The event starts on the Great Lawn then convenes in the Auditorium to watch the race. Rare books from Pequot’s Special Collections focused on Kentucky will also be on view.

Kentucky Derby history tells us that 141 years ago, the race leading up to what is now the Run for the Roses was a fundraiser for the purpose of raising money to build quality racing facilities. Today, Pequot Library continues that drama and excitement with a fundraiser for the purpose of raising money to help bring literature, music, art, science, and the humanities to our community.

Bring your own tailgate or enjoy the Library's! All tickets include open bar and Kentucky fare. Individual tickets are $60 each. Derby Day co-chair Jane Michener says, “It’s the best deal in town! Where else can you get a full southern feast plus an afternoon of mint juleps for $60.00?” Tailgate tickets ($300) include four individual tickets and special 3:00pm entrance. Both Tailgate and Individual ticket prices increase after April 24, 2015.
