Pequot Library's Summer Book Sale 7/24-28 Offers Unique Specials

Southport, CT – Pequot Library’s 55th Annual Summer Book Sale will run from Friday, July 24 – Tuesday, July 28, 2015. On Day One, residents will wait patiently in line on Pequot Library’s Great Lawn for the cannon to sound, announcing the sale as open. This beloved sale, with people traveling to it from as far away as California, has been labeled “The Best Book Sale in New England.” All Sale proceeds help fund Pequot Library's over 450 annual programs and events. There promises to be high quality books at reasonable prices. Cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express are accepted. Admission to the book sale is free and open to the public.

For the 55th Annual Summer Book Sale there will be more than 55 categories, including over 120,000 books, plus CDs, DVDs, records and more. Unique “Specials” will be offered, with a catalog of higher value and/or scarce items available online at www.pequotlibrary.org on July 13. “Specials" (books that are rare, unique and unusual) will also be conveniently located in one room during the sale. Included in the “Specials” catalog are a 250+ year-old book of Isaac Walton’s, The Compleat Angler: Or, Contemplative Man’s Recreation. Published in 1759 in two parts with 10 engraved plates by H. Burgh, it is a tight copy in contemporary leather binding. Doug Fried, volunteer chair of the Summer Book Sale comments, “It is a very nice copy of a highly collectible title.”

Rare and collectible “Specials” include a 1st edition of To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. This is especially timely as Lee’s second book will be released in July, 55 years after her first Pulitzer prize-winning novel. The “Specials” also include signed books by Douglas MacArthur, Colin Powell, Thornton Wilder, Rudyard Kipling, Gore Vidal and others.

Two featured categories at this summer’s sale are an extensive selection of fly fishing books with over 40 titles, plus train magazines dating back to 1939.
