Westport Artists' Collective Pop Up Show Sept. 10

Fifteen local artists will be featured at the Westport Artists' Collective 4th Pop Up exhibition on Thursday, September 10 from 6-8 p.m. at the Westport Arts Center. The one-night event is free and open to the public.

The festive Westport Arts Center Pop Up shows typically draw crowds of over 300 people and are a lively celebration of creativity and originality. Guests can enjoy wine and a delicious variety of toasts and toppings (a tradition of the founding members, the “Toasters"), meet the artists and purchase the showcased works of art.

The one-night Pop Up includes a diverse range of artists from the Westport Artists' Collective including Amy Bock, Ivanilde Brunow, Trace Burroughs, Eric Chiang, Randi Davis, Niki Ketchman, Susan Lloyd, Day Moore, Olivia Munroe, Diane Pollack, Steve Pomerantz, Nancy Reinker, Jill Sarver, Norm Siegel and Al Coyote Wiener.

The fifteen artists who exhibited at the Pop Up in Spring 2015 selected the fifteen participating artists. In turn, the artists in this Pop Up will each select an artist to exhibit in the Spring 2016 Pop Up, creating an ongoing cycle of artists selecting artists.

Helen Klisser During, the Westport Arts Center’s Artistic Director, and five local artists founded the Collective in 2014. Founding artist members include Nina Bentley, Tammy Winser, Jahmane West, Duvian Montoya and Miggs Burroughs.

"Our Collective Pop Up shows are a friendly, satisfying surprise. There’s something exciting about a event that appears almost instantaneously, announces 'Come and get it while it’s hot!' and then is gone the next day," said co-founder Tammy Winser.

The Collective has grown to include 150 members who have joined forces to discuss, create, and develop dynamic art experiences. It serves as a base for Westport Arts Center’s artists, bringing exciting Pop Up shows and other unique art events to the Arts Center and the greater Fairfield County community.

“I am so proud to see the Westport Artists’ Collective blossom into a viable and passionate collective that is presenting such talented and committed artists,” said Helen Klisser During.

Co-founding member Duvian Montoya stated, “The Pop Ups are a great window into an artists’ collective that is filled with some of the region’s best artists -- artists that are constantly working at their craft and that use the collective as a spring board for ideas and collaborations for future projects.”
