WHS to Host Black Rock Harbor Cruise July 24

Black Rock, CT -- Join the Westport Historical Society on Sunday, July 24, at 11:15 am for great activities at Captain’s Cove Marina in Black Rock Harbor in Bridgeport.  In the 18th century, the Historic Black Rock Harbor, now known as Captain’s Cove was used as a trade port and shipbuilding center. Start off the day with a tour of an historic house museum built in 1893 where you can view artifacts and nautical memorabilia.

From Noon to 1 pm, hop on a 40-foot former US Navy launch boat appropriately named “Chief” and tour the perimeter of the harbor to view all the historical sites, such as the lighthouse and old shipyards. After the tour, take a leisurely stroll along St. Mary’s By the Sea and meander through the BIG little buildings. Built in Colonial and Victorian architectural styles, these miniature shops present a wide variety of gifts.

The boat is limited to a maximum of 30 people, so reserve early to get a spot! Tickets are $20 for members and $25 for non-members. The price of the ticket includes the guided tour of the historic house and boat tour plus light refreshments.
