Music for Youth Presents Free Violin Concert Sept. 24

Southport, CT -- Join Music for Youth at Pequot Library on September 24th, 2 pm at Pequot Library for a Free Young Persons’ Concert featuring the violinists Luosha Fang and Eunice Kim. 

As first violinist of the Chimeng Quartet, Luosha Fang received the Silver Medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. She has appeared at the Library of Congress, Italy’s Incontri in Terra di Siena Chamber Music Festival, Ravinia Festival’s Steans Institute, and the Marlboro, Aspen, Norfolk Chamber Music, Music from Angel Fire, and Bard festivals. Recently, she was a regular guest artist with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and soloist with the Louisville Orchestra. She holds a Diploma from the Curtis Institute of Music as well as degrees in both Violin Performance and Russian Studies from the Bard College Conservatory of Music.

Eunice Kim made her solo debut with The Philadelphia Orchestra, Louisville Symphony, and the Albany Symphony Orchestra. Recently, she appeared at the Library of Congress, with “Curtis On Tour,” and at the Kennedy Center. She has participated in the Music from Angel Fire and Marlboro Music festivals, and is the recipient of awards from the California International Violin, the Pacific Music Society, and the Korea Times String competitions. She recently taught at Chile’s Teatro Del Lago Festival and Norway’s Valdres Music Academy. She holds degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music, where she was concertmaster of the Curtis Symphony Orchestra and was awarded the Milka Violin Artist Prize.

Luosha and Eunice will perform Sousa, Leclair, Bartok and Auguste de Beriot,  The performance will be followed by a master class for advanced violinists.  Registration is required for the master class.  For more information about the master class, performance, or pre-performance meet the violin workshops:

Meet the Violin Workshop” for young children and their parents will take place in the children’s library at 12:45. Construct a cardboard violin model & wooden bow and get hands-on instruction in bowing rhythms & handling this instrument from Suzuki School of Westport and Orange Music teachers. 

Registration is required for workshop only at pequotlibrary.org. Under Children’s tab, see Upcoming Events.  There will be a $5 materials fee for this workshop collected at the door.   Workshop will be limited to 15 students.

Music for Youth’s mission is to foster the love and knowledge of live music in young people. The concert in September is FREE for adults attending with children. Adults attending without children are asked to make a goodwill donation that helps to sustain future programs.
