FAIRFIELD, CT – Get into the spooky spirit of Halloween and learn about Connecticut’s Revolutionary War history at the Fairfield Museum on Wednesday, October 19th. Sun Tavern will be open to visitors at 7pm and author Courtney McInvale will be at the Museum at 7:30pm to talk about and sign her book, “Revolutionary War Ghosts of Connecticut.”
Learn about pivotal figures from the American Revolution—from the Sons of Liberty to the Tories—and find out how some of them still haunt Connecticut today. According to McInvale, Nathan Hale may still conduct lessons in New London and East Haddam, and many suspect that George Washington occasionally visits Fairfield’s Sun Tavern. The presence of notorious traitor Benedict Arnold is often felt in New London, where he commanded troops numbering 1,600 as a newly turned Loyalist. Guests at the event will hear these stories and more, and have a chance to ask questions and purchase the book.
In addition, Sun Tavern will be open for visitors that evening at 7pm. Stop by before the book talk to see inside this historic building, and learn about its history. The 1780 tavern was the site of a much-celebrated visit from President George Washington. A lively establishment, it provided food, drink, and lodging for travelers and those who came to do business at the county courthouse also located on the Green. It became a private residence for ministers, businessmen, and a New York City actor who made it his summer getaway.
