Fairfield's 2017 Memorial Day Parade Lineup Announced

Fairfield, CT -- The Town of Fairfield has announced its P R O G R A M for its 2017 MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONIES, to be conducted MAY 29, 2017, and COMMEMORATING THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST GULF WAR. The program is as follows:

No rain date will be scheduled.  Cancellation will be announced on Radio Station WICC AM 600, TV Channels 8 & 12.

2017 PARADE ORDERS

THE PARADE WILL MOVE OUT AT 10:00 AM SHARP.

ROUTE OF PARADE - The line of march will be East from South Pine Creek Road along Post Road to Library, thence South along Old Post Road to Flint’s Corner, and thence East along Old Post Road passing the Town Green and continuing beyond South Benson Road to disband.  DIVISION 1 will start from South Pine Creek Rd. and DIVISIONS 2 on Beaumont St. and 3 will be split between Granville St. and Bungalow Avenue and will join in numerical order when directed by their Division Commander to do so.

Bands are not permitted to stop in front of the Reviewing Stand but are instructed to begin playing before approaching the Reviewing Stand. Bands are advised to begin playing at the driveway at St. Paul’s Old Town Hall.  Bands may maneuver at any other place the parade may be stopped, if time allows but must move out when parade proceeds.

All units will continue beyond South Benson Rd. before disbanding. 

The Division Commanders are in command of their units and all participants must follow their orders.  All Division Commanders will see to it that the units under their command strictly adhere to the Parade Orders with respect to saluting the Reviewing Officers as they pass the Reviewing Stand and will see to it that there is no advertising displayed in the parade except as authorized by the Committee.  They will also strictly enforce the regulation against parade participants throwing candy or other items to spectators and spectators throwing objects at parade participants.

All Unit Leaders should be instructed to keep their respective unit not more than 20 ft. behind the unit ahead.  Division Commanders will keep their Divisions about 30 ft. apart.  BOY SCOUTS, CUB SCOUTS, GIRL SCOUTS, BROWNIES, LITTLE LEAGUE, etc. must be 10 abreast.  All routines are limited to 30 seconds so as not to disrupt the line of march.

FLOATS - ALL large floats and floats desiring to enter the float contest should assemble on the Post Rd west of North Pine Creek Rd. by 8:45 AM.  First, Second and Third place prizes will be awarded.

CANCELLATION:   The Committee reserves the right to cancel the parade by 6:30 AM. on the date of the parade.  Notice of cancellation will be made to radio station WICC (600) and TV Channels 8 & 12.  In the event of inclement weather, participants should obtain cancellation information by monitoring the above radio station or TV channels.

TRAFFIC REGULATIONS - The following traffic regulations will be carried out by the Fairfield Police and are included in this Order for information and guidance of all concerned.  After 9:30 AM, no traffic will be allowed along the parade route, on South Benson Road or on Beach Road south of Post Road to Judson Rd.  NO PARKING WILL BE PERMITTED ALONG THE PARADE ROUTE - South Pine Creek Road to Bungalow Ave.  NO PARKING on East side of Reef Road from Oldfield Road to Crescent Road. No through traffic will be permitted on South Pine Creek Road after 9 AM.  NO PARKING will be permitted on South Pine Creek Road from St. Anthony’s Church to Post Road.
