Fairfield D.A.R. Tag Sale Set for Memorial Day at Old Academy

Fairfield, CT -- On Memorial Day, May 29th, the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) will be holding its annual tag sale at the Old Academy on the Town Green, but this year the sale will feature a vast array of jewelry and eclectic items. The sale begins at 9 AM and runs until 2 PM and is a fundraiser to replicate missing Connecticut tercentenary signs throughout Fairfield.

“In 1935, in celebration of the 300th anniversary of Connecticut, markers were placed in Fairfield to commemorate historic occasions in its founding, the American Revolution, and War of 1812,” explains DAR Regent Linda Paslov. “Several of these markers have gone missing. The Eunice Dennie Burr Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution is planning to replace several of the missing signs.”

Do you know where George Washington crossed the Mill River? Or where Paul Revere slept when going to Philadelphia? Or where the British landed when they burned Fairfield in 1779? These markers tell you.

All monies raised will be used for the restoration of these signs and others. Contributions are welcome as well.
