Westport, CT - Drones, radio controlled helicopters, aerobatic planes and gliders will all be displayed and flown in the 2nd Annual Air Show at Sherwood Island State Park on Saturday, June 3. Youngsters and adults alike will be given the opportunity to actually try their hand at flying a radio controlled plane during the afternoon Air Show. The Show will be announced throughout, providing interesting information on the various drones and aircraft being flown, as well as related facts.
The event will be conducted as part of the Sherwood Island Trails Day by the members of the Country Squires Modelers, a group of over 100 men, women and children who have been flying at the Sherwood Island site for over 45 years. Members range in age from 9 to 90, and include retired airline pilots, professionals, students, tradesmen and homemakers. Young people find the sport particularly engaging, and they are often very adept at it because of their computer game skills. As one parent of a new member recently related, “this has been a wonderful experience for our son. It has him outdoors, and he’s learning so much about science and engineering while satisfying his computer interests”.
