Fairfield, CT -- The public is invited to a reception at Art/Place Gallery for “Layering Colors”, the artwork of Art Place members Dave Pressler and Phyllis Peckar Clamage, on June 25 from 2-5 pm. The show runs from June 21 to July 24. The artists will talk about their work on July 20 at 1:00 pm. The gallery is at 70 Sanford Street,in Fairfield. See www.artplacegallery.org or call 203-292-8328.

Shelton resident Dave Pressler has a design, art and photography background.  He holds a BFA in Industrial Design from Rhode Island School of Design. Earlier in his life, he headed educational exhibit divisions of The American Museum of Natural History in New York,  Field Museum in Chicago and the Hudson River Museum. He studied at the Smithsonian Institute and Silvermine Guild Arts Center. He is a member of many area groups.

Dave has shown his work at area hospitals, galleries, and museums. He is the recipient of numerous design awards for his design work and is named on several patents for proprietary design contributions to such companies as Kodak, BASF, Warner-Lambert and Hasbro.

Dave works with photography, digital, printmaking, drawing, painting and sculpture.  For this show, he uses a process that he has developed called neo-anaglyphs that involves structuring compositions by physically “layering” colors to create 3-D images that are viewed through micro-coated, clear lens glasses. He calls them Mindscapes and says they “are about learning to look in order to see.  I make an effort to feel the essence of each subject, involving the viewer with compelling subjects that exhibit strong visual interest. My goal is to introduce new experiences, increase awareness, and stimulate thought and enjoyment...”

Phyllis Peckar Clamage is from Stratford. She has had a life-long love affair with paper, making it and using different papers from around the world. She attended the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, the Parsons School of Design and NYU, and she studied papermaking privately in Japan. She has taught hand papermaking and bookbinding; was an instructor at the N.Y. Botanical Gardens, and taught or lectured at Silvermine, Fashion Institute of Technology, New Britain Museum, and the Stamford Museum, among others, and she has appeared on Cablevision.

Her work has received numerous awards and has been widely exhibited in galleries in the Northeast, including the Aldrich Museum, Silvermine Guild, Soho 20, Greenwich Art Society, Brookfield Craft Center, Bruce Museum, and Boston Symphony Hall. It is also in many private and corporate collections, including Champion International, Aetna Insurance, Credit Suisse, and I.B.M.

Her latest explorations combine her own handmade paper and silk organza in double monoprints and collages. These works use the interplay of layered geometric shapes like the square or its variations. There is rhythm and harmony and tonal layers. The shapes have a lively tempo and she says they make her feel as though she is in a world of visual music.
