Cartoonist Sean Kelly at Pequot Library Twice in Nov.

Southport, CT – Top American cartoonist and illustrator Sean Kelly will speak twice in November at Pequot Library. On Friday, November, 3, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. Kelly will present Fantastic Finds: The Lighter Draw of Politics. Join him for an up-close-and-personal experience with Pequot’s special collection of WWl political cartoons as part of the related programming in conjunction with the exhibition The Great War and the United States Home Front. The program is free and open to the public.

Some of the items to be viewed include Wally – His Cartoons of the A.E.F. by Private Abian A. "Wally" Wallgren (published in 1919; original publisher The Stars and Stripes). Wallgren worked as a cartoonist for the Philadelphia Public Ledger and Washington Post before the outbreak of WWI, when he served in France with the Fifth Marines of the First Division. Wallgren's cartoons appeared in every issue of The Stars and Stripes, poking fun at army life, satirizing the absurdity of army regulations, and highlighting the differences between the army brass and the frontline soldier. Cartoons on the War by Boardman Robinson (1915) will also be featured.

The book’s publisher, Simon & Schuster writes, “Midnight Confessions by Stephen Colbert and the staff of “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert is Stephen Colbert at his most brilliant and irreverent. Forgive him, Father, for Stephen Colbert has sinned. He knew it was wrong at the time. But he went ahead and did it anyway. Now he’s begging for forgiveness. Based on his popular segment from “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert and his team of writers now reveal his most shameful secrets to millions (although, actually, he’d like you not to tell anyone).”
