Holiday Express Train Show & Winter Wonderland Exhibit to Open at Fairfield Museum, Dec. 1

FAIRFIELD, CT - Bring your family to the Fairfield Museum before or after Fairfield’s annual Tree Lighting event on Friday, December 1. The Holiday Express Train Show grand Opening Night celebration will take place from 5-8pm and the Museum will also welcome visitors to its new and playful exhibition, Winter Wonderland

Visitors on Opening Night will be the first to view the annual show and to delight in the magic of the model trains and winter landscapes surrounding them. Cider, cookies and a craft activity will be part of the fun. “The Holiday Express Train Show is a special tradition here at the Fairfield Museum,” said Christine Jewell, director of education and community programs. “Opening Night is a community favorite, and it’s full of old-fashioned holiday fun.”

On Opening Night, Museum Members are always free and non-member guests will receive a discounted admission rate of $3 per person or $10 for a group or family of four. Children ages 5 and under are free. Become a Museum Member during the Train Show and receive an additional 6 months for free. (Members receive free admission throughout the year, discounts on programs, advance notice of exhibits, special events and programs, and 10% off in the gift shop.)

New this year, the Museum is displaying a Winter Wonderland exhibition in the Ruth Carlson Horn Gallery that celebrates the history of winter activities like sledding, skating, and skiing. It also explores how people deal with the less enjoyable aspects of winter, such as shoveling snow and coping with blizzards. The exhibition runs through February 19, 2018.

The Holiday Express Train Show will be open through January 7, 2108. Hours are Monday through Thursday 10am-1pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am-4pm and NEW extended hours on Fridays from 10am to 7pm. During the holiday vacation week, December 26-29, the trains will run all day, from 10am-4pm. The show is CLOSED on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Programs related to trains, holidays and history, including story sessions and a build-a-train workshop will run all month. Please visit https://www.fairfieldhistory.org/programs-events/holiday-express-train-show/ for a full list of programs and activities.
