Pequot Library's Holiday Open House: Dec. 15

Southport, CT – If your idea of the perfect way to kick off the holiday season includes cherishing old friends and meeting new ones while experiencing seasonal activities for all ages, come celebrate the holidays Pequot Library style with a social gathering of vintage merrymaking and holiday cheer. Welcoming the holiday season with charm, Pequot Library invites one and all to the quintessential New England Holiday Caroling Party and Open House on Friday, December 15, 2017, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Pequot Library is located at 720 Pequot Avenue, Southport, CT.

The party features horse-drawn carriage rides through Southport Village, the choirs from both St. Thomas Aquinas Parish and Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, crafts and cookie decorating for youngsters, seasonal beverages for adults and children, and caroling around the bonfire. The party is free and open to the public. You can help Pequot give back by bringing donations of new and unwrapped children's books (K-12) to the Open House. The books will be given to underserved populations in surrounding towns.

Horse-drawn carriage rides, provided by the Bronx Equestrian Center, can be enjoyed from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Timed tickets are required for the carriage rides and will be available at the Front Desk of the Library starting at 5:00 p.m. on the day of the event; open seating for carriage rides is available from 6:30-7:00 p.m., with the last ride taking place at 7:00 p.m.

Everyone at the Open House can tour the Holiday Magic: Selections from the Children's Historical Collection exhibition on view through February 4, 2018. Holiday magic for the whole family abounds as you explore rare books and time-honored imagery, both religious and secular, including the antics of Eloise and Babar the Elephant. In this one-of-a-kind exhibition of vintage postcards, holiday literature, and caroling music dating back to 1848, you can experience the magical and memorable role holidays play in the lives of all readers, especially children. The exhibition is in The Perkin Gallery, and the party extends into Pequot Library’s Auditorium, Reading Room, and outside on the Great Lawn.
